It seems that one of Fox News' bullies may not return to the air. Many sources report that Bill O'Reilly may not be returning to his show.
It is hard to believe it took this long to get one of Fox News' most prolific misogynist sexist bullies off-the-air. Then again it is the Trump Network.
NewsHounds reports the following.
The Wall Street Journal, a sister company to Fox News, has reported that Fox News is “preparing to cut ties with its biggest star, Bill O’Reilly, according to people close to the situation.”
The Wall Street Journal article is behind a paywall so we can’t read the whole thing. But the headline may tell you everything you need to know. It's hard to imagine that The Journal would report such a thing without excellent sources.
Similar reporting has been done elsewhere. Earlier today, Gabriel Sherman reported, “Three sources with knowledge of the discussions said that, while no final decision has been made, the Murdochs are leaning toward announcing that O’Reilly will not return to the air.”
Brian Stelter reported, “A well-placed source said Tuesday afternoon that representatives for Fox and O'Reilly have begun talking about an exit. But this prompted a denial from sources in O'Reilly's camp.”
What is sad is that even as the O'Reilly scandal grew, he continued getting excellent ratings.
Embattled Fox News TV anchor Bill O'Reilly maintained strong viewership ratings ahead of his two-week vacation, even after more than 50 advertisers pulled their commercials from "The O'Reilly Factor" news show, according to Nielsen.
Fox News parent Twenty-First Century Fox Inc is investigating sexual harassment claims against O'Reilly, who has said that he was unfairly targeted because of his public prominence.
O'Reilly's ratings have remained strong with an average of 3.7 million viewers last week, up from the prior week and leading all other cable news programs, according to Nielsen.
The "O'Reilly Factor" continued that pace this week, averaging 3.7 million on Monday and Tuesday, the media tracking firm said on Wednesday.
